"Slump, and the world slumps with you. Push, and you push alone."

-Laurence J. Peter

Secret awoke on the cold sand, her hair matted against her face. She coughed, water spilling out of her mouth and onto the cool sand. She looked around, disoriented and feeling fear gather in the pit of her stomach. She had no idea how she had survived that last bout with pressure. Prominence pulled her usual disappearing act and left Secret alone and drowning in her own sorrow. Somehow or someone had pulled her through. Secret reminded herself to kiss her guardian angel when it was finally time for them to meet. She sighed, taking in the full aloneness that encompassed her. She picked up a seashell talking to no one in particular,

Do you ever think that even if youre standing right there, you could be invisible?

The silence was the affirmation of this heavy-hearted thought. She thought to herself about how invisible she felt to the world. She could drown in fear and pain, and no one would care. She could be part of a group, without even being there. No one cared if she was there or if she had feelings or if she had anything to say. They only cared about themselves.

Do you ever feel like you dont really matter to anyone in this world? she asked aloud again, talking to the seashell.

All the time.
