"We choose our joys and sorrows long before we experience them."

-Kahlil Gibran, Sand and Foam

Secret threw herself down the cold sand, staring at the water. Prominence and she had reunited for a brief stint of a week. Her aloneness had been outshined by the warm light of what she thought was love. After being lost in the storm for weeks on end, a new hero had come to her side. P, the Conqueror, came like a whirlwind into her life. And for once Secret had forgotten about pain, insecurity, and confusion. He brought Secret out, even after reuniting her with Prominence and made her feel better and prettier than Prominence. Even after her dismissal, Prominence had given Secret her blessing. A week of bliss is what Secret had felt. Finally all of the pain that had been churning inside her had disappeared. Everything in Secrets upside-down world had become normal and she could finally be a good contribution to Js subconscious. She had felt important and cared about. Secret had stopped feuding with the world and Prominence and had almost felt normal.

Almost.

Then like the whirlwind that he came in, he pushed her away from the bliss and thrown her onto the beach, as if to tell her to get away from it all. He brought back her pain, multiplied it, and returned it to her. Then, off he went, away with the wind and told her never to follow. Again, her world was turned upside-down and again she was alone. And Secret cried to herself for allowing herself to surface, for allowing herself to feel, for allowing herself to be taken in and chewed up. She stared at the water, noticing a large wave sneaking up on her. It was decision time. Should she run away and try to save herself? Or should she let the sea of sorrow, pain, and death swallow her whole?

Tick tocktick tock.

Secret stood up and took a step toward the wave.
