Dog Handling

Clare Naylor

Fiction

I started this book in early June while I was on Vicodin from a car accident. The author is British and it took awhile for me to get used to the strange spellings of words and British as well as Australian slang. The premise of the book is the ever-classic tale of a woman finding herself after being jilted at the altar. In this case, the woman, Liv, a boring accountant is about to marry the man that shes dated for five years, basically the only man that shes ever been with. She starts to get cold feet, fretting that she hadnt really sewed her wild oats yet, but blows off her desires. However, her fianc decides to call off the wedding and in a fit of sadness, Liv decides to take off for Australia to cool off for a bit with her best friend. She meets some entertaining gay men who teach her the art of dog handling when it comes to men, or essentially, playing hard to get. Liv happens to run into the man that shes always dreamed about after a brief fling about ten years prior and starts to use her new skills.

The book is certainly modern, however, the writing is somewhat basic. It was enjoyable to me, but Id rank it as enjoyable as reading a new Cosmo. It is, essentially, a shallow, predictable book, certainly not one that Id really recommend. Sorry folks.
